明亮的微笑

MingYu which translates from mandarin means Bright Smile its the name of my made up college brand which i have created from both my imagination and love of everything east asian. Ive been asked to create a brand name, brand image, brand designs, brand logo etc etc..
Here's some of the stuff ive come up with so far... I chose do use these dolls as my logo character, this board shows the different stages of variation. This is my 'Brand Image' board showing what kind of theme im going for, what kind of customer im looking to attract and what my store would look like.
This is my 'Brand Logo' board, ive tried to show different logo shapes and colours i thought worked well together.

This is a board which i done on illustrator to show variation designs of tags, bags and pencil cases around the 'MingYu' brand.

'Keeping up with the Kardashians'

Since when did the Kardashian twins Kylie and Kendall get so old?
Im not really into classing celebrities as style icons or anything becuase most of them have stylists and most of them arent anything special to be honest.
BUT, 15 year old Kendall Jenner has been named a 'style queen' along side Gwen Stefani, Elziabeth Olsen and afew others. It's actually creepy how old Kendall looks for a 15 year old though. I would be lying if i said i knew absolutely anything about Kendall in the fashion industry besides modelling but i guess shes happy to be getting publicity without her sisters.
Khloe tweeted "OMG Kendall is a style queen!!!!!!!!"
Could be one to watch..

What a disappointment.

So much for dedicating time every other day to my blog, i log in. after forgetting my password! and come to realise i havnt said anything atleast half descent since last November. What a disgrace. I really need to update. ASIF! my first blog of the year is me aplogoising for lack of blogging.
Shit one.
I'll fix up.
Pinky sware. But anyways, i promised to say a little sumsum' once i heard any news about the new Japanese reality show 'Shibuhara Girls' So here goes.
Finally, the day has come where i am starting to get information on the highly anticipated 'Shibuhara Girls' The premiere date has been set, trailers have been relesed and the four main cast girls have been publisied and profiled. This is the first ever reality show in Japan made my MTV. Bit of background 141? It is set in the infamous Shibuya and Harajuku districts in Tokyo, the fashion and entertainment capitals. It follows their struggle to make it in the model or music industry and unlike 'The Hills' or 'Laguna Beach' they arent nobodys, becoming famous through a reality show, but these girls are all known in thier own right. Lets take alook at the girls.
TOKYOFASHION.COM says:
''Kozue Akimoto Kozue Akimoto is a fashion model who has already achieved a great deal of success since stepping onto the scene back in 2009. Of course, she’s also known for another reason, as the daughter of Chiyonofuji, who is perhaps one of the most successful sumo wrestlers of modern times. She faces the pressure of stepping out from under her father’s shadow.

Marie Ishikawa Marie is a 22 year old native of Tokyo who is on the verge of breaking into the pop scene. She’s released a few songs but has big hopes riding on the debut album she’s currently putting together.

Shion Miyawaki Shion Miyawaki is probably best known for her single BOY, but since her early success she’s seen her stardom fall. Originally from Nagasaki, she’s lived in Tokyo since her teenage years and currently faces the pressures of choosing between her declining career and her boyfriend.

Sun Wei Sun Wei was born in China, but raised in Japan. She’s a successful model for the magazine Pop Sister, which has already exposed her to a giant audience. She’s also an internet hit with a very popular blog and over 8,000 followers on her Twitter account. However, despite her legion of growing fans, Sun Wei is still single and looking.''

Japans going crazy for.... Strawbags?

We all know Japans fashion trends move quickly and strawbags arent exactly new.
Well, there around every summer arent they? But this year it looks like strawbags are the must have accessory in Japan right now, there popping up everywhere.

Tokyo fashion week SS 2011

Every year Japan holds the annual Tokyo fashion week, Theres alot to say about this event and how huge it is, but im not going to go on and on about it.
I'm just going to show you my personal favourite pieces from a few collections.
First up - Banal Chic Bizarre.
I actually thought this collection was amazing, i liked the way the models were styled and the collection as a whole. 'TOKYO FASHION' said: ''The Banal Chic Bizarre event was one of our most anticipated shows of this fashion week, and we weren’t disappointed. The models were all wearing helmets and the lighting was harsh, creating a sort-of Mad Max-inspired atmosphere – perfect for showcasing the unique vision of this creative Harajuku street brand''
Favourite pieces?

''Shibuhara Girls''

Japan is going to be releasing its first reality show produced in the country.
''Shibuhare Girls'' will follow the adventures of four young women as they try to make a name for themselves in the competitive Japanese fashion industry. The action will be centered around Tokyo’s famous Harajuku and Shibuya districts, giving the series its name. The “Shibuhara Girls” TV show will presented in a season lasting 12 episodes. Each episode will be 30 minutes long. “Shibuhara Girls” will begin airing on MTV Japan in January of 2011. After its debut in Japan, the series is expected to be shown in other Asian markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, and the Philippines. No word yet on whether the Shibuhara Girls will eventually make their way to America, the UK. MTV hasn’t released any promotional material to let us know what the series will look like yet – or who the real Shibuhara Girls are – but i will update you once we have more information on the show. I cant friggin wait!
I hope it airs over here!

Roaming the streets of London

This is also a late one.
Being a fashion student does have its perks, We all took a long ass trip down to London's Victoria & Albert museum, then down to Oxford street and Selfridges.
To be honest, ive been to the V&A before and once youve seen it once you dont need to see it again. Oxford was how it always is, busy and full of interesting people.
Selfridges in London is obviously much better then the one in Birmingham, i mean, i seen a women having her foot skin eated by fish in the middle of the store. Vivienne westwood's corner was really nice, but oh so expensive!
I love riding the tube, its nothing like the bus or the 'peasant wagon' as i like to call it.
Me outside the V&A. Then me & the girls underground.

Birmingham Style Live 2010

Im posting this abit late, but better late then never.
I was lucky enough to work behind stage at Birmingham style live for the second year running this year. For you who dont know, Birmingham Style Live is basically like Birmingham's Fashion week where they host a main fashion show and other fashion related events around the town centre. It T'was Myself, my friend Simon and the rest of my buddies from Matthew Boulton Fashion Lab, We were model dresses and although sometimes extremely stressful i loved it, as i always do.
When u watch a fashion show and the models come out all composed and looking immaculate you dont realise that as soon as they come off stage their running around trying to get the next garment on in time for their next time slot. As 'glamorous' as working at a fashion show might sound, its not. Sorry to ruin the illusion.
But it was good fun...
OH CRAP! i nearly forgot! Every year they have celebrities to either preform or to host the show. Last year it was the lovely Emma Willis hosting and the beautiful Mr Hudson preforming. But this year i was in all. My mouth dropped and my eye widened when i met this years host, the beautiful, stylish George Lamb!
He was by far the best part of the show, besides the garments obviously. Doing six one hour shows all day wasnt so bad when u had George back stage talking with everyone. You may be aching all over for the next four days but its well worth doing.
Now to make you all jealous, me and georgie.

The ever changing face of British Vogue.

In 2026 we will be celebrating 100 years of VOGUE! Amazing!
I can hardly imagine a magazine as popular as it is being around for so long.
The latest vogue shows Cheryl Coles picture on the front looking all glamorous and polished. And although VOGUE has always been the fabulous fashion magazine it is today its faces have changed alot over the years.
Lets have a look and see...
